Mark Harmon is best known for his role as Special Agent Gibbs on CBS’s blockbuster drama NCIS, but for one California guy, the actor is a true hero for he saved a person in a car accident. Harmon and the man he helped are still chatting about the tale years later.
Harmon has played Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS, the most-watched non-football show on television, since 2003.
Gibbs and his crew solve crimes against Navy members as commanders of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Harmon, on the other hand, was a real-life hero before he played this American hero.
NCIS Mark Harmon Rescued Teen From Accident
Talking about the accident Mark Harmon is called a hero for, a car carrying two adolescent boys wrecked near Harmon’s home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on January 3, 1996.
The driver was able to exit the vehicle, but the other child remained imprisoned. Dawber, who portrayed “Mindy” in the Mork & Mindy sitcom, discovered the boys.
The automobile was burning and upside down. When she couldn’t open the door, she summoned her husband, Harmon, who arrived with a sledgehammer.
Harmon used a sledgehammer from his house to smash a vehicle window and release Colin Specht, a 16-year-old boy.
“He pulled me out of the car,” Specht later explained, “since I was still upside down with the seat belt in.”
When the youngster was dragged from the automobile, he was on fire, and Harmon and others doused the flames.
Specht, who is now a Los Angeles-based wellness coach, tells the story on his website. He was in the hospital for several months, suffering from a collapsed lung, shattered bones, and burns.
“People constantly remark, ‘Oh, is he your angel?'” Specht said in an interview with CBS News. ‘Mark Harmon is not an angel,’ I think to myself. He’s a lot more.’
Because angels have no concept of death. This man had a wife and children, after all.
