Nancy Ludwig Murder Update
A Northwest Airlines flight attendant who was murdered in a horrible manner, which went unsolved for 11 years and occurred in Romulus about 30 years ago, will be the subject of a new episode of Investigation Discovery’s “The Lake Erie Murders.”
Nancy had been chained, raped, and stabbed, and her throat had been sliced to the point where her head was almost separated from her body. Because of the lack of DNA technology in Michigan, the murder went unsolved for over a decade.
Jeffrey Gorton of Vienna Township in Genesee County was sentenced to life in prison by Wayne Circuit Court Judge Maggie Drake in 2002, bringing the case to a close.
Gorton’s DNA was found to match samples collected from Ludwig’s remains in 2001. According to the Free Press, a Michigan State Police DNA analyst testified that the DNA found on her body had a 1 in 97 quadrillion chance of matching anyone other than Gorton.
According to the Free Press in 2002, Gorton’s defense counsel, Craig Tank, did not mount a defense or attempt to contest the DNA evidence’s trustworthiness. Gorton has also changed his mind and chose not to testify at the last minute.
Gorton was convicted of first-degree murder, felony murder, criminal sexual conduct, and robbery when he was 39 years old.
He also pled no contest to accusations that he raped and murdered Margarette Eby, a professor and former provost of the University of Michigan-Flint. She was 55 at the time of her death. Gorton nearly decapitated Eby in a way similar to Ludwig’s.
Where Is Husband Art Ludwig Today?
Nancy Ludwig, 41, was a flight attendant married to Art Ludwig.
However, little is known about his current whereabouts, and people are concerned about where he is and how he is doing so many years after his wife’s death.
He could be fine, given there has been no word on his terrible sickness.
