Mike Leigh OBE FRSL is an English film and theatre director, screenwriter, and playwright. He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and further at the Camberwell School of Art, the Central School of Art and Design, and the London School of Film Technique.

Before Bailey, Leigh tied the knot with Alison Steadman, an award-winning English actor. The two married in 1973 and divorced in 2001.
Together, they have two sons Toby and Leo Leigh. Toby Leigh was born on February 3, 1978, and Leo was born on August 15, 1981.
Her early television work includes small roles in Casualty, The Bill, Holby City, and Midsomer Murders. She has one daughter, an actress with Alice Bailey Johnson with writer Terry Johnson. Her current partner is the long-term collaborator and director Mike Leigh.
Bailey was born in Bushey Hospital, in Bushey, Hertfordshire, to Rose (née Timberlake) and William Bailey.[citation needed] She grew up in Harrow, Middlesex, and attended Pinner County Grammar School.
She was a member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. With writer Terry Johnson, she has a daughter, actress Alice Bailey Johnson.
