He is best known for being the lead singer and drummer of the band The Monkees. His parents were both actors and Micky started acting in a children’s show called Circus Boy in 1956.
In 1965 he became part of The Monkees, a band created for the NBC show. When he was hired he did not know how to play the drums but later learned. He wrote a few songs for the band and directed and co-wrote the final episode of the show. He purchased one of the first Moog synthesizers and was one of the first to use such an instrument in a rock recording. After the show ended The Monkees got back together to tour the United States from 1975 to 1977. For legal reasons they used the name Dolenz, Jones, Boyce, & Hart. After The Monkees Dolenz had roles in the TV shows The Tick and lent his voice to The Secret Files of the SpyDogs. He recorded 16 non-Monkees singles and released two CDs with the record label Kid Rhino. He has done several Monkees reunion tours. He has been married three times and has four daughters.
