Here, we’ll run through the events of Mickey’s life, shedding light on the relatively unknown aspects of his boxing career, plastic surgery, and what we all know him for – acting.

The biography of Mickey Rourke

The American actor is an elderly citizen who was born in the year 1952 precisely on September 16 in Schenectady, New York. His full name is Philip Andre “Mickey” Rourke Jr. but he is known as Mickey Rourke.

While his parents are no more, the American entertainment industry remains grateful to them for giving the world such a valuable talent as André. He was born to Annette (née Cameron) and Philip Andre Rourke Sr., both of mixed parentage and ancestry. Mickey’s mother had Scottish, French, English and German ancestry, while his father was of Irish and German descent. The family was Catholic and grew up in the faith with his brother and sister (Joey and his sister Patricia). Their father, however, divorced his mother when the legendary actor was just 6 years old.

As a child, Mickey Rourke studied at Miami Beach.Senior High School, where he spent many sports activities until he graduated in 1971. After graduation, he began training at the self-defense at the Boys Club of Miami, where he became interested in boxing.

boxing career

His passion for combat sports intensified such that at the age of 12, Mickey Rourke was on the verge of pursuing a career as an amateur boxer.

Being someone who commits his heart to anything his first boxing match marked his first victory as an amateur pugilist in a 112-pound (51 kg) flyweight duel in 1964. That win was all he had needed to keep his steam running as he hit 140 pounds (63.5 kg) in the category he fought in would now be former world welterweight champion Luis Rodríguez.

Phil Rourke who was his ring name then revealed that he suffered a concussion in the match. He also suffered another concussion at the Florida Golden Gloves in 1971, after which doctors advised him to stay out of the ring.

He then came back as a professional boxer in the year 1991 with victory in 6 out of 8 fights, the other two fights ended in draws for him. Mickey Rourke went on to fight in countries like Japan, Spain and Germany, recording several victories and making his mark as a professional boxer. However, his physical appearance was severely hampered by sports, resulting in numerous injuries, some of which were abused.

In total, Mickey recorded a total of 27 wins (17KOs) with 3 losses in his amateur boxing career. His professional boxing records are not available at this time, but we do know that he fought in a preseason match against Elliot Seymour in Moscow, Russia on November 28, 2009. The match ended at second round as he knocked out his opponent. However, Elliot would later reveal that he was being paid by Rourke’s team to dive in the second round, but Rourke was unaware of this.

Acting career

After the break, Mickey Rourke took up amateur boxing following severe concussions, he moved to New York to learn acting under the tutelage of Walter Lott and Sandra Seacat; the latter was then a professor at the Actors Studio in New York.

Rourke’s first major appearance was in the 1980 film Fade to Black as his 1981 appearance in Body Heat made him famous with his rugged looks and acting style. During this time he also wrote scripts for films like Homeboy (1988), The Last Ride (1994) and Bullet (1996).

He took a temporary hiatus in the 90s but made a strong comeback with Sin City (2005) where he played the lead role. Other major works he has done on screen include: Iron Man 2 (2010), Java Heat (2013) and many more.

Plastic surgery

After spending a lot of time in the ring with the many beatings he endured as a boxer, Mickey had his share of injuries that he often had surgery to repair.

The retired boxer suffered from short-term memory loss, split tongue, compressed cheekbone, broken nose, toes and ribs. Of all his wounds, it was the ones that had to do with his face that he had suffered the most from, even after they healed.

His face needed reconstructive plastic surgery which he chose because he knew he looked terrible. After his surgeries in the 90s, Mickey Rourke turned out worse than he did. He admitted that he had been operated on by the wrong person who, in an effort to improve his appearance, had made him even uglier. He has also gone under the knife several other times recently, but has never improved. As expected, news of his latest bizarre looks went viral in the media and with memes on social media as he was seen hanging out with a friend of his.

Net value

The retired boxer, actor and screenwriter, although no longer active in the film industry, has been well rewarded for his good days (boxing included). For this, and many other things that are sources of income for him, Mickey Rourke has a net worth of $10 million.
