Michelle Meyrink is a Canadian actress who was born on September 1, 1962. During the 1980s, she appeared in both television and feature films, usually portraying outspoken adolescent females. Meyrink was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and is best known for her roles as Judy in the 1984 comedy Revenge of the Nerds and as Jordan Cochran in Martha Coolidge’s 1985 feature Real Genius. She starred in a number of comedies, including Valley Girl (1983), in which she played Suzi Brent, and The Outsiders (1983), in which she played Cherry Valance’s closest friend Marcia. She had a cameo appearance on the television programme Family Ties in 1984 as Mallory’s friend (and Skippy’s newest crush).
Her last appearance in Hollywood was in the 1988 film Permanent Record. Following that, Meyrink gave up acting as a vocation, saying that she wanted more out of life than acting could provide. During this time of change, she developed an interest in Zen Buddhism. Meyrink went to the Dominican Republic for a while to be among family members who lived there as part of her aim of changing her life. Jordan Cochran, Meyrink’s Real Genius character, was ranked #6 on Wired.com’s “Top 10 Greatest Minor Characters in Geek Fiction” list in 2010. She subsequently returned to her hometown of Vancouver, where she met her future husband, John Dumbrille, at the Zen Centre of Vancouver in 1996. “Michelle Meyrink gets much of the credit for Jordan’s inclusion on this list,” writer Matt Blum said. Meyrink and Dumbrille have three children and reside in Vancouver, British Columbia. She and her family were featured in a 2004 episode of the Canadian television series Quiet Mind, which focused on their embrace and practise of Zen Buddhism.Meyrink now runs her own acting school in Vancouver, Actorium, which is modelled in part after the Loft Studio, where she studied with several Hollywood actors.
