Michael Constantine (born May 22, 1927) is an American actor of Greek ancestry who was born in the United States. He is perhaps best known for his role of Kostas “Gus” Portokalos, the Greek father of Toula Portokalos (Nia Vardalos), in the 2002 surprise blockbuster film My Big Fat Greek Wedding, in which he appeared as the Windex-toting Greek father of Toula Portokalos. In the years before that, he was well-known for his considerable television work, particularly as Seymour Kaufman, the long-suffering high school principal on ABC’s comedy Room 222, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1970. Sirota’s Court, a short-lived 1976 comedy in which he portrayed a night court judge named Matthew J. Sirota, was his first television role.
