Michael Jerome Cage (born January 28, 1962) is a former American professional basketball player who now works as a television commentator for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the National Basketball Association. His height is 6’9″ and he plays power forward/center for San Diego State, where he is the all-time rebounding leader and second-leading scorer as of 2011. Cage was selected with the 14th overall selection in the 1984 NBA Draft. The Los Angeles Clippers, the Seattle SuperSonics, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the New Jersey Nets were among his five NBA clubs throughout his 15-year career, which spanned 1984 to 2000. One of the high points of his career came in 1988, while playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, when he led the league in rebounding with 13.0 per game. He was engaged in a one-on-one battle with Charles Oakley, who was then a member of the Chicago Bulls at the time.
It was necessary for Cage to grab 28 rebounds in his last game in order to defeat Oakley for the rebounding championship. He finished up with a total of 30. Throughout his career, Cage acquired the nicknames “John Shaft” and “Windexman” (as in “cleaning the glass”) for his ability to rebound and his dedication on the defensive end of the court. He has averaged 7.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game during his career.
He is presently the NBA player with the most number of career 3-point tries without ever making a 3-pointer himself (25). Cage and his wife Jodi have three children: Alexis, Michael Jr., and Sydney. Cage is married to Jodi and they have three children. His favourite activities as a retired athlete include refereeing soccer games and seeing his own children play. His other favourite activity is playing pick-up basketball at the Merage Jewish Community Center in Newport Coast, where he resides. He was also just inducted into the Arkansas Hall of Fame, which is a great honour. Alexis, his eldest daughter, is a competitive volleyball player. On September 17, 2014, the Oklahoma City Thunder announced that Cage will be joining their broadcast crew, taking over for Grant Long as an analyst.
