As everyone else in the state was being evacuated, a small crew and she stayed behind to cover the hurricane. Back then she was 22 years old, scared, clad in rain gear, and she had relatively little experience. The coverage included live traffic evacuation shots in wall-to-wall coverage. The hurricane would go on to miss her hometown of Charleston, however, it did launch her career in the process. Subsequently, the NBC station offered her a morning show and she has been in TV news ever since.
Meredith has been reporting news for NBC in the evening segment for six years. She has been an anchor in the DFW market for all that while.
