Melissa Reid is one of the two of Peru Two alongside Michaella McCollum. On the 6th of August 2013, took them into custody on suspicion of illegal substance smuggling at Jorge Chávez International Airport, Lima, Peru.
The same year in December, the court sentenced them to six years and eight months imprisonment. After two months, McCollum returned to Europe and reached Dublin airport in Ireland on 13 August 2016.
Since their arrest, the women have been the subject of substantial journalistic coverage in Peru, the UK, Ireland, and other nations. They were shown in the Channel 4 series Brits Behind Bars: Cocaine Smugglers.
