Melissa Marie Mathison was an American film and television screenwriter and Tibetan independence activist.

Melissa Mathison died of neuroendocrine cancer on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at UCLA Medical Center. She was 65 years old at the time.

Mathison was married to Harrison Ford from 1983 to 2004, and the couple had two children. Details of their wedding were never made public.

Melissa Mathison filed for divorce 18 years later, in 2001, after it was revealed that Ford had been partying with other women and had left the marital home in Manhattan.

It took another three years to reach an agreement there was no prenup. Mathison won a large payout from her ex-husband in 2004, banking between $85 million and $118 million

Melissa never remarried after her divorce. Mathison is survived by her two children from her marriage to Ford: Malcolm, a musician born in 1987, and Georgia, an actress born in 1990.
