He attended the US Military Academy at West Point and graduated in the top 5% of his class. He was remembered as always “going for it” in sports, academics, leadership and his social life. His last assignments in the Army were as commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and as a Commander in the US Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A) from July 4, 2010 to July 18, 2011.
