Mehran Modiri (Persian: ), an Iranian actor, television director, comedian, and singer, was born on April 7, 1967. His creative career started while he was a teenager, when he began performing in local productions. In the early 1990s, he moved into the realm of radio and television, actively producing scripts for and performing in different comedy sketches during the IRIB’s annual Norooz comedy television programmes. He continued to act in television comedies, but it was with his invention of Pavarchin (Tiptoeing), for which he received many prizes for directing and starring in the film, that he gained true fame. He found new success when he directed and acted in the Iranian television series Noghtechin (Ellipsis) and Jayezeye Bozorg (The Grand Prize), both of which became huge successes.
Following that, he followed Pavarchin’s storyline with the creation of Shabhaye Barareh, which became his most popular television programme to date; however, the show was left unfinished after it was criticised for offending rural people, resulting in the show’s abrupt ending after 92 episodes, without fully explaining the Barareh history. He has appeared in two feature films and had intended to return to the business once Shabhaye Barareh was finished. Instead, he began work on his next project, the television show Baghe Mozaffar. Modiri has performed at a number of events and published a music CD. He also served in the Iran–Iraq War. He is the father of two children and is married. Modiri was designated one of the 20 individuals who control power and public conversation in Iran by Newsweek in 2009.
