Mehmet Oz is an American politician who is the Republican nominee in the 2022 US Senate election in Pennsylvania.
He is professionally known as Dr. Oz and has a history as a television presenter, professor, and author. He is also a distinguished medical personnel and a retired cardiothoracic surgeon.
Born to Turkish immigrants on June 11, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, as Mehmet Cengiz Öz, he was raised in Wilmington, Delaware. He did his high school studies at Tower Hill School in Delaware.
Oz then graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Harvard University in 1982 and earned an MD and MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine and Penn’s Wharton School in 1986.
He is a dual citizen of the US and Turkey and served in the Turkish Army for 60 days of mandatory training. He began his residency in surgery in 1986 and was a professor of surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in 2001 and later retired to professor emeritus in 2018.
The 62-year-old is a television personality. The Dr. Oz Show was launched in 2009 by Harpo Productions and Sony Pictures Television and has been successfully running for 13 seasons. The program focuses on medical matters and health concerns.
In 2018, President Donald Trump appointed him to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, and he was later removed from the position by Joe Biden. Oz declared in 2021 that he would run in the 2022 US Senate election for Pennsylvania as a Republican.
