Megan James Career
WKYT Lexington, Kentucky
As a child, Megan was terrified of storms after the 2003 tornado outbreak tore across the Kansas City metropolitan area, taking out a few homes in the neighborhood next to their home. One rumble of thunder and she would make a run for the basement. She found comfort watching the local meteorologists’ coverage of storms from there on out, eventually gaining an interest in the phenomena. She is a strong believer in the power of knowledge, and that is something that she is so excited to give back to her community.
Megan graduated from the University of Missouri in May 2019 with a degree in Atmospheric Science. Before coming to WKYT she was a weekend weathercaster at KOMU 8 News in Columbia, Missouri. While she has lived in Missouri her whole life through childhood and college, she is excited to be in Kentucky starting her next adventure. She is already falling in love with the Bluegrass State.
Outside of weather and reporting, she is very passionate about sports. She is a HUGE Kansas City Chiefs fan, and as a true Kansas Citian, she loves the Royals as well. While her loyalties to Mizzou remain strong, I will still cheer on the Wildcats alongside the Big Blue Nation (as long as the teams are not playing each other, of course!). She is a big fan of running, lifting and dogs as well.
