Families of those slain in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre have negotiated a $73 million settlement with the corporation that manufactured the murder weapon.

Remington’s four insurers have all agreed to pay the entire amount of coverage available, according to Koskoff’s legal firm.

In 2020, the gunmaker declared bankruptcy, and its assets were sold off. According to Koskoff’s law firm, thousands of pages of internal Remington corporate records can now be made public.

Remington Arms reached a settlement in response to a lawsuit filed by the relatives of nine of the 26 victims of the 2012 unfortunate Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

It’s the first time a gun manufacturer has been held responsible for a mass massacre. Remington, according to the families, was careless.

“From the outset, these nine families shared a common goal: to do everything they could to help avoid another Sandy Hook. It’s challenging to think of a better way to achieve that aim. “In a statement released on Tuesday, Josh Koskoff, an attorney representing the victims’ families, said

Lenny Pozner and Veronique De la Rosa, whose six-year-old son Noah was slain, said, “Our loss is irreparable, in the sense that this conclusion is neither redemptive nor restorative.”

Remington, situated in North Carolina and founded in 1816, has refuted the charges, claiming that there is no proof that their marketing activities were linked to the Sandy Hook tragedy.

On Tuesday, no one from the firm could be reached for comment.

Last year, as a trial date neared, Remington suggested settling with the families for $33 million. Unfortunately, the exact amount of the settlement was not specified in court records filed Tuesday morning.

When Did It Take Place? Death Count Explored

The families claimed that Remington, the gun manufacturer, violated state consumer law by marketing the weapon to so-called couch commandos and unstable young men like the gunman. The latter stormed into the elementary school on Dec. 14, 2012, killing 20 first-graders and six teachers in a hail of bullets.

In the repercussion of the Sandy Hook tragedy, no new national gun control measures were established, despite the murders of young children ages six and seven.

Legal experts predicted that the case would fail because the plaintiffs’ allegations ran afoul of federal laws that shield gun manufacturers from most lawsuits when their guns are used to commit a crime.

The incident is the deadliest mass shooting in American history at an elementary school, as well as the country’s fourth-deadliest mass shooting.

The tragedy sparked debate about gun control in the United States, sparking calls for universal background checks and new federal and state gun laws restricting the sale and manufacture of certain semi-automatic firearms and magazines with more than ten rounds of ammunition.
