Peter Seabrook was happily married to his wife Margaret for almost six decades, till death made them apart.
After battling for nine years of living with dementia, Peter’s beloved wife of 60 years died with Covid in 2020.
He named a pale pink Verbena flower Margaret’s Memory after his wife and donated the proceeds to Alzheimer’s Research.
Seabrook first met his wife at Writtle Horticulture College in Essex.
In an interview with the Sun, Seabrook explained how they have been fulfilling the vow they took before fifty-nine years to look at each other in sickness and health.
He states, “I have done the same for over ten years, while she suffered from Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.”
“We stayed together in our own home for as long as we could, until two years ago when she began receiving a week of respite care once a month.”
He recalls the memory of him feeding and tucking up her in bed. According to him, the one thing you need in such a difficult situation is a good sense of humor.
As, we are taught from kindergarten through college, adult learning, and job training, but, no one teaches you how to deal with old age.
He claimed, “you’ve got to learn fast, not just how to care for somebody with dementia. All previously shared roles must be assumed by the healthy partner while also caring for the patient.
Gardening has provided him with much-needed solace during a difficult time. He states, “after I lost my wife, these weeks of great sorrow, I know I am not alone.”

Peter Seabrook had a beautiful family with his wife and their two children. As of now, their children have all grown up to bless the parents with their two grandchildren.

According to him, he became fascinated about gardening observing his grandparent’s works. He states, “Horticulture ran in my family. “I grew up gardening with my father and grandfather,” he once said. I’ve always been curious.
“When we lived on my grandfather’s farm, we separated a little field as a garden when we wanted to.” “Because I grew up during WWII, we always grew vegetables to eat.”
“I still have my first seed packet.” I planted these sweet peas when I was seven or eight years old and have grown them every year since.
