According to his defense team, the charge is thought to derive from an alleged incident that occurred between January 1 and April 30, 1988.

Fortin has stated that he is innocent of any misconduct. Moreover, he has filed a court request to his ouster from the post of directing Canada’s vaccination rollout earlier this year. He claims his deportation was done without due process.
