Max Morath children: Meet Kathryn Morath, Christy Mainthow, Frederic Morath & Monette Fay Magrath

Max Morath, a pioneer of public television and a prominent national advocate of ragtime music, passed away on Monday morning in Duluth. He was 96.
In 1926, Max Morath was born in Colorado Springs. His mother, a pianist, instilled in him a passion of music, and throughout the 1950s, he honed his abilities as a performer and producer in a variety of settings in that well-known tourist destination. He developed ground-breaking shows as a result of his intense interest in the art and technology of radio and television.

Additionally, he encouraged young musicians who were furthering the genre and worked to highlight the undervalued contributions of female artists like composer Carrie Jacobs-Bond. The ragtime music community adored Morath.

Morath’s only prior union resulted in divorce. Three of his own children—Kathryn Morath, Christy Mainthow, Frederic Morath, and Monette Fay Magrath—as well as a daughter from another relationship with Skomars made up his family. The pair commended the Aftenro team for giving Morath great care after he moved into the facility in 2022.
