Sixth-generation Italian Australian Matthew Dellavedova was raised in Maryborough, Victoria. He played basketball, tennis, soccer, and Australian Rules football in his youth, among other sports.

He played the flank position for the football team and scored 32 goals in 26 games between 1999 and 2001. He did, however, decide to give up football and focus solely on basketball.

Matthew Dellavedova was transferred back to the Cleveland Cavaliers on December 7, 2018, as part of a three-team deal that also involved the Bucks and the Wizards. He had a strong return game for the Cavaliers on December 10 against the Bucks, scoring 11 points in 16 minutes.

Against the Denver Nuggets on March 7, 2020, Dellavedova recorded a career-high 14 assists.

On November 25, 2020, he re-signed with the Cavaliers, but he only participated in 13 games because of a number of illnesses he developed throughout the 2020–21 season, including a concussion, whiplash, an emergency appendectomy, and a neck strain.

On July 9, 2021, Dellavedova agreed to a three-year deal with Melbourne United in the Australian NBL. He had an outstanding season with United, averaging 10.3 points and 4.3 assists per game.

He recorded a career-high 33 points against the Illawarra Hawks on January 16, 2022, making seven 3-pointers and dishing out nine assists. However, he did depart from the organization in July 2022 to rejoin the NBA.

Dellavedova made a commitment to the Sacramento Kings on July 29, 2022. On March 31, 2023, it was tragically revealed that he had broken his right index finger and would be out of commission indefinitely.
