Nevertheless, Bloom announced that he would resume his teaching profession and serve as a trainer in WWE Performance Center on Aug 7, 2014. After serving as a trainer for almost a year, Matt was promoted to become NXT’s head trainer.

Matt also fought in the WWE under the alias A-Train between 2002 and 2004. He challenged for the  WWE Championship at SmackDown’s brand-exclusive Royal Rumble in 2004. However, he was eliminated by Eddie Guerrero before he was traded to WWE RAW on March 22, 2004.

Bloom made his debut at WWE RAW on June 7 but had his last match at WWE Heat. He lost his last match to Val Venis before he was released from his WWE contract on Nov 1, 2004. However, Bloom made his return to WWE in 2012 where he made an appearance in the March 19 episode of WWE Raw under the alias ring name Lord Tensai.

Onn his early return to the WWE, Bloom aka Lord Tensai started off with a winning streak beating lower rated wrestlers and stars like John Cena and CM Punk. However, he decided to drop the name Lord and Japanese outfit which proved to be a bad omen. Tensai started losing more frequently through the rest of 2012.

Due to his losing streak, Matt started pouring out his frustrations to wrestling companion Sakamoto who stopped accompanying him to the ring. His losing streak continued through 2012 where he was only able to win a match against Big Show via disqualification.

Santino Marella reduced Matt to a comedy act after he not only called Tensai a “Fat Albert” but also defeated him in the next match. Tensai formed a tag team with fellow WWE wrestler Brodus Clay in 2013. Tensai and Clay’s team went on to defeat several accomplished tag teams in the WWE before they announced their official team name_’ Tons of Funk‘ on the March 27 episode.

Tons of Funk was stable and great until Nov 2013 when it started showing signs of instability. Clay started being angry, jealous, and obsessed with Xavier Woods which resulted in Tensai and the Funkadactyls isolating themselves from Clay. Clay continually assaulted R – Truth (Xavier Woods partner) instead of going for a win at the TLC match.

Tensai and the Funkadactyls left the match in a protest which resulted in Clay losing the match. Additionally, Tensai defeated Clay in a SmackDown match held on Dec 20.
