Biola University is a private, evangelical Christian university located approximately 16 miles (26 km) from downtown Los Angeles, in La Mirada, California, United States. Founded in 1908, the university has over 150 programs of study in nine schools. Biola University was founded in 1908 as the Bible Institute of Los Angeles by Lyman Stewart, president of the Union Oil Company of California (subsequently known as Unocal and later purchased by the Chevron Corporation); Thomas C. Horton, a Presbyterian minister, and Christian author; and Augustus B. Prichard, also a Presbyterian minister.
In 1912, the school appointed R. A. Torrey as dean, and in 1913 began construction on a new building at the corner of Sixth and Hope St., in downtown Los Angeles, which included a 3,500-seat auditorium, two large neon signs (added later) on top of the building proclaiming “Jesus Saves”, and a carillon of eleven bells on which hymns were played three times each day. These early leaders wanted the school to focus on the training of students in the Bible and missions, rather than the broad approach to Christian education typical of Christian liberal arts colleges. The Institute offered a diploma after completion of a two-year curriculum. This model was based largely on the Moody Bible Institute. Beginning in the 1920s, attempts were made to broaden the curriculum, but it was not until 1949 that the institution took the name “Biola College” and in 1981 was renamed “Biola University”. Biola re-located to La Mirada, California in 1959.

Would you like to bring solid apologetics teaching to your church or conference? Learn more about booking Mary Jo for an event. On December 5, Mary Jo was privileged to be the guest speaker at the Guild of HBU’s annual Christmas luncheon. The Guild is a group of civic-minded Christian women who serve HBU by providing women in the Houston area an opportunity to participate in the ongoing development of Houston Baptist University, filling needs which are not being met at the present time by any other University support group.
After her talk, Dr. Robert Sloan, President of HBU, honored Mary Jo by presenting her with a Pre-1650 leaf of Job 28. He explained that the reason he chose this specific passage is because of what Mary Jo does as a professor; she searches for wisdom, which is far more valuable than silver and gold. Where can true wisdom be found? As Job 28:28 says, “The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.”
Why Do You Believe That Mary Jo Sharp Review
Review
“Finally, a book that focuses on the use of Christian apologetics in women’s ministry! Women’s ministry is a powerful element in churches; it meets needs and changes lives for the better. And there has been a recent surge of interest in women’s ministry for Christian apologetics. Therefore, this book is both timely and right on the mark, and Mary Jo Sharp is the woman most qualified to teach on the matter. So whether you’re a leader or attendee in the church, if you’re involved in women’s ministry, this is a book you will want to read.” (Michael R. Licona, Associate Professor in Theology Houston Baptist University 2013-01-01)
“What a valuable resource! We live in a culture of competing ideas and ideologies that challenge our faith and require us to think deeply about our beliefs. Honestly, I can’t think of a more valuable resource in women’s ministry to equip you, your family, and your church to defend your hope in Jesus Christ.” (Andy Steiger, Director Apologetics Canada 2013-01-01).
