Her second album, Martika’s Kitchen, peaked at position 111 on the Billboard Top Albums chart. The title song only received a small amount of radio play in the US; its peak position on the Billboard Hot 100 list was number 93.
However, the album performed better overseas, reaching its highest point at number nine in Australia and number fifteen on the UK Albums Chart. The album delivered more hits with “Colored Kisses” and “Martika’s Kitchen.” Another track from the album, “Temptation,” was included on Patti LaBelle’s Burnin’ CD.
The lounge singer Dahlia Mendez was portrayed by Martika in the 1990 television crime drama Wiseguy. During the fourth and last season of the show, she shared a co-starring role with Steven Bauer, who took over for Ken Wahl in this capacity.
Martika left the music industry in 1991/1992 due to stardom’s excessive pressure, which lowered her public profile. A greatest hits compilation titled The Best of Martika: More Than You Know was released in 1997.
During the early 2000s Latin music boom, Martika contributed backup vocals to several projects and created songs for other musicians. Major labels did not give her as a solo artist any attention despite her contributions.
Instead, she focused on building relationships with her followers through the 2001-launched website martika.net. Martika created a track called “Monday” and a remix of a brand-new song titled “The Journey” for an unsuccessful solo album.
