Martika’s Kitchen, her second album, reached its highest point on the Billboard Top Albums chart at position 111. In the US, the title single only received a little amount of radio; it peaked at number 93 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The album did better abroad though, peaking at number 9 in Australia and number 15 in the UK Albums Chart. With the tracks “Coloured Kisses” and “Martika’s Kitchen,” the album produced more hits. Patti LaBelle recorded “Temptation,” another song from the album, on her album Burnin’.
Martika portrayed the lounge singer Dahlia Mendez in the 1990 television crime thriller Wiseguy. She co-starred with Steven Bauer, who replaced Ken Wahl in this role, during the fourth and final season of the show.
Martika left the music business in 1991/1992 because she was feeling too pressured by stardom, which decreased her public profile. The Best of Martika: More Than You Know, a greatest hits collection, was released in 1997.
Martika performed background vocals on numerous projects and wrote songs for other artists during the early 2000s Latin music boom. Despite these contributions, major labels did not pay much attention to her as a solo artist.
Instead, she concentrated on establishing relationships with her followers via the website martika.net, which she launched in 2001. Martika self-recorded a remix of a brand-new song named “The Journey” and also made a track called “Monday” for an ill-fated solo album.
