Before being elevated to senior national security correspondent in May 2003, Martha Raddatz worked as ABC News’ State Department correspondent and spent a significant amount of time in Iraq.
She rose to fame on June 8, 2006, when she and ABC broke the news about the whereabouts of terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi before any other news organization.
Raddatz’s reporting has not always been free of controversy. In 2008, she discussed studies that suggested Americans were losing faith in the Iraq War with former vice president Dick Cheney. Cheney responded with “So?” when she questioned him about it. This led to a great deal of backlash.
Popular novelist Raddatz’s book The Long Road Home: A Story of War and Family recounts the siege of Sadr City in Iraq. Late in 2017, NatGeo released a TV miniseries based on the book.
