Marlene Rittmanic – Bradley Il Police Shooting Victim
Aged 49, Marlene Rittmanic was a Bradley Police sergeant, whom 25-year-old Darius Sullivan and 26-year-old Xandria Harris killed.
The offenders face several felony charges for last week’s hotel shooting that killed one and left another critically wounded. Kankakee County State’s Attorney Jim Rowe is trying to indict them with federal murder charges while pushing federal prosecutors to pursue the death penalty.
The shooting happened at about 9:56 p.m. on 29 December 2021. Officer Tyler Bailey and Rittmanic were in the parking lot of Comfort Inn in the 1500 block of North State Highway 50 in response to a noise complaint on dogs barking in a parked car.
When the officers discovered the identity of the car’s owner as Harris, they asked a few questions to a hotel employee. The staff redirected them to room 308, which Sullivan had booked.
The officials knocked on the door several times. After a while, Harris tries to squeeze her way through the door, attempting to prevent Sullivan’s capture. While they were asking her to stop the doorway blockage, Sullivan, wanted on outstanding warrants for failure in a court appearance and a former Bradley officers escapee, came around with a drum clip-equipped 9mm handgun.

During the struggle, the wanted man shot Bailey in the head and the escaping Rittmanic. Allegedly, he chased the sergeant down the hallway and pinned her against a door but couldn’t fire as he was busy trying to disarm the officer.
Sullivan then asked Harris to cock the gun, leading to her joining the fray, and as a result, they successfully disarmed the official. Already shot once, he fired two more bullets from Rittmancic’s gun despite her pleading for life that strikes her neck area. After the shooting, he fled the crime scene in a vehicle while Harris ran off with her belongings and two children.
The two injured got taken to hospital, where the sergeant later died. As for the other one, he is fighting for his life.
About 9 a.m., the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force arrested Sullivan after he walked out of a home in North Manchester. Seven hours after the arrest of Harris’ partner, she also surrendered at the Bradley Police Department accompanied by her attorney.
