Mark Thatcher Siblings: Who Is Carol Thatcher

Carol Jane Thatcher, born on 15 August 1953, stepped onto the world stage as more than just the daughter of Margaret Thatcher, the iconic British Prime Minister. With a multifaceted career as a journalist, author, and media personality, Carol Thatcher carved her path, distinct from the shadows cast by her mother’s political prominence.

Born prematurely at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in Hammersmith, London, Carol, along with her twin brother Mark, entered the world six weeks ahead of schedule via C-section. Her early years unfolded against the backdrop of her mother’s political journey, with Margaret Thatcher being elected as a Member of Parliament in 1959.

Carol’s educational journey led her to Queenswood School and later to St Paul’s Girls’ School. She pursued a law degree at University College London before embarking on a journalism career in Australia in 1977. The move to Australia coincided with her mother’s ascent to the position of Prime Minister, adding a layer of complexity to Carol’s life.

Carol Thatcher’s journalism career kicked off in Australia, working for the Sydney Morning Herald from 1977 to 1979. She transitioned to television reporting at Channel Seven in Sydney, eventually becoming a reporter on its morning news show, 11 AM. Upon returning to Britain, she navigated the media landscape, working as a presenter for LBC, BBC Radio 4, and TV-am. However, her mother’s political prominence led to challenges in publishing her work under her byline.

Despite these challenges, Carol authored her first book, “Diary of an Election: with Margaret Thatcher on the campaign trail,” in 1983. Her collaboration with tennis player Chris Evert Lloyd on “Lloyd on Lloyd” marked her first best-seller. In 1996, she published a best-selling biography of her father, titled “Below the Parapet.”
