Mark Normand’s comedian girlfriend, Mae Planert, shared her story about how she met when she met him for her guest appearance in A Relationship Story.
On the podcast, Mae revealed that she was dating someone else when she first met Normand. In fact, she went on a date with him on Normand’s show. But after the show, Mae couldn’t stop thinking about Mark, so her roommate gave her advice to message him.
“So she messaged him on Facebook, and one of his jokes at the time was about how he was therefore, awkward because if he makes eye contact with a woman, he thinks they’re in love, and Mae was like, ‘We made eye contact multiple times, so we’re in love now.'”
Following the first communication, the two connected and began going out. Planert wasn’t a comedian when the two first started dating. She only became interested later on.
She was first hesitant to be upfront about her passion because she feared that if she succeeded, people would attribute her accomplishments to having a famous comedian boyfriend.
Planert didn’t approach Normand for aid and even kept her start in comedy a secret from him. In fact, he didn’t realize she was doing stand-up comedy until they were both booked for the same event six months later.
As they continued to spend time with each other and were fascinated by each other on stage and off-stage. This led to months of dating which eventually lead to a long-term relationship between the two.
