Former President and CEO of Clear Channel Communications, Inc., a worldwide media and entertainment business with headquarters in San Antonio, Texas, USA, Mark P. Mays has been named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. Mays became president and CEO of the business in October 2004 after previously working for the corporation in several capacities. Mays has a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Vanderbilt University, as well as an M.B.A. from Columbia University’s School of Business. Mays has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. As recently as October 2007, a letter to Mays from 41 Democratic United States Senators demanded that the Republican presidential candidate denounce Rush Limbaugh for remarks that were purportedly directed at all troops who opposed the Iraq War as “fake warriors.” With the letter in hand, Mays handed it over to Limbaugh, who auctioned it off on eBay on behalf of the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, raising a total of $4.2 million for the organisation, including matching money. Mays announced his resignation from his role as Chairman of Live Nation on February 4, 2007. On June 22, 2010, Mr. Mays announced his decision to stand down as CEO of Clear Channel Communications at the end of 2010, but that he will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Clear Channel workers received an email with the news, which also ordered the Board of Directors to launch a search for his successor. Mays is a member of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Executive Board, which serves as the organization’s highest governing body.
