Mark William Latham, an Australian politician and media analyst, was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council when he was born on February 28, 1961.
From December 2003 to January 2005, he was the Australian Labor Party’s (ALP) leader and leader of the opposition.
Under his leadership, the ALP lost the 2004 federal election. After joining One Nation, he left the Australian Labor Party.
One Nation won a seat in the New South Wales Legislative Council in the 2019 New South Wales state election.
He resigned before the state election in 2023 to run for a second term and to allow for the appointment of another individual to fill his temporary vacancy.
With Crean’s retirement, Latham barely defeated Beazley in a leadership ballot to become the Labor Party’s next leader in December 2003. As Chris Watson led the party in 1901, he was its youngest leader.
