Canadian singer Marie-Mai was born Marie-Mai Bouchard in Varennes, Quebec, on July 7, 1984. She was initially acknowledged as one of the winners of the first season of the Quebec reality competition Star Académie.
Marie-Mai Biography
Marie-Mai was born to an actor father. Marie-love Mai’s music was first awakened when she began taking piano lessons and participating in musical theater as a young child. She soon began singing, impressing her grandmother. Throughout the next years, she would keep helping Marie-Mai hone her vocal abilities.
Her grandma then advised her to try out for a brand-new competition called Star Académie. She began appearing in shows at Montreal’s Théâtre Musical in the Passion fierce play in 2001, before this.
She advanced to the finals of the 2003 competition when her pop-rock aesthetic immediately caught the judges’ attention. She came in third place, behind Wilfred Le Bouthillier, the eventual winner, and Marie-Elaine Thibert, the competition’s runner-up.
She was a member of the Montreal cast of Jonathan Larson’s rock opera musical Rent, which was shown at the Olympia Theatre after the Star Académie tour concluded in 2004.
