Atencio’s career in journalism kicked off in 20009. This was after she was hired by the Vme-TV network in Globovision in New York City and as an anchor. She was hired by Univision in 2012 as an investigative reporter. Atencio also worked on the Peabody Award-winning documentary Rapido y Furioso (Fast & Furious) among the other four reporters.

The documentary won an Investigative Reporters and Editors Award. She received a Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Media This was after working on the Univision documentary, “Pressured: Freedom of the Press. She also got the National Association of Hispanic Journalists “Latino Issues” award. Nonetheless, Atencio has also covered the ‘The Morning Show’ on Fusion TV channel.
