Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest despite being short-handed due to illness, largely thanks to a goal and an assist from Marcus Rashford. The Red Devils are now just one point out of the top four.
After 19 minutes, Rashford scored the game’s first goal with a spectacular finish after being set up by Christian Eriksen in a premeditated corner play and capitalising on Forest’s failure to monitor his run by sweeping a first-time effort past Wayne Hennessey.
Three minutes later, the Englishman switched roles, cutting in from the left flank and rolling a pass to Antony Martial, whose low shot from the edge of the area found the net after Hennessey dropped the ball.
The goalkeeper for Forest stopped Antony, Martial, and Rashford before the replacement Fred scored three minutes from time after a superb through ball from fellow Brazilian Casemiro.
Despite having a goal disallowed by VAR right before halftime, Forest never recovered from those two first-half blows.
No goals have been scored by Steve Cooper’s team away from the City Ground in the league since August 20.
The result gave United their fourth straight win across all competitions and provided more evidence that the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo will not derail the Red Devils’ title hopes.
