At her New York American Idol audition, Maddie Poppe dazzled the judges by singing “Rainbow Connection” from The Muppet Movie. Lionel Richie lauded her for having a unique “storytelling voice” and emphasized how important it was to have her on the show.
Luke Bryan supported her by saying, “I’m not critiquing you because you got me, I’m saying yes,” while Katy Perry praised her for using a distinctive tone of voice. As she performed her own song, “Don’t Ever Let Your Children Grow Up,” Perry compared Poppe’s sound to her own.
Poppe acknowledged that prior to her Top 24 performance, she had little hope of winning American Idol. She planned to make it to the Top 24 before being eliminated. She gave a detailed explanation of her plan and stated that she didn’t want to place herself in a position where she would be upset if things didn’t work out.
During an interview with Bobby Bones, Poppe admitted to having stage fright while recalling instances when she had previously given terrible performances. She suffered from this fear of failure every time she took the stage.

Emma, on the other hand, is the family member who is the most athletic. One of her Instagram pictures demonstrates how successful she was when a student at Clarksville High School in a variety of athletic tournaments.
