Madeline Mae Poppe, born December 5, 1997, is a gifted American singer-songwriter and musician who rose to prominence as the sixteenth-season winner of American Idol.
She is a talented multi-instrumentalist who can play the guitar, piano, and ukulele in addition to singing. Poppe recorded an album called “Songs from the Basement” independently before winning American Idol. She signed with Hollywood Records in 2019 and released her first studio album, “Whirlwind.”
Poppe began her musical career on June 20, 2016, when she released her debut album, “Songs from the Basement,” independently.
She received the opportunity to open for the country band Diamond Rio at the Butler County Fair that same month, allowing her to showcase her talents to a broader audience.
Poppe auditioned for the tenth season of another prominent singing competition, The Voice, in 2016 before becoming famous on American Idol.
Her audition, which included a rendition of “Dog Days Are Over” by Florence and the Machine, did not pique the interest of any of the judges (Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams, Christina Aguilera, and Blake Shelton), and she was eliminated. Despite this setback, Clarksville honored her with a special gathering at the Clarksville Library.
