NHL star Luke Prokop’s parents are incredibly supportive of their son’s sexuality as a gay man. They even encouraged him to come out to the world.
Luke Prokop is a Canadian ice hockey athlete from Edmonton, Alberta.
A defenseman on the field, he was selected by the Predators in the 2020 NHL draft. Luke signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Predators in December and played last season for the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.
Moreover, Prokop has played in leagues, including the World Select Invitationals ((WSI) U13 and Brick Invitational. Similarly, he has also represented Canada at the international level at The World Hockey Championships (WHC) U17 in the 2018-19 season.
Luke is making rounds in various media outlets as he became the first active player under the NHL contract to come out as gay on 19 July 2021.
Apparently, no active or retired NHL player has ever come out publically. Supported by his family and friends, he announced via an Instagram post.
Luke Prokop Parents Names Revealed
Luke Prokop is yet to reveal the names of his parents.
However, we do know that he first came out as gay to his parents first in March 2020. Likewise, he also revealed his sexuality to his friends and siblings.
And finally, with the support of his family and friends, he decided to reveal his sexual identity to the Predators management in June 2021.
The team is very supportive and proud of his decision, including the assistant general manager Brian Poile. With lots of love and support shown to him by his parents, family, friends, and team, he got public with his sexuality on 19 July.

Luke Prokop hasn’t disclosed any information on his relationship status.
Whether he is in a relationship or single is currently unknown. Coming out publically as gay on 19 July, he wants to live his life authentically.
Prokop isn’t the only athlete to make his sexuality public.
Apparently, Las Vegas Riders’ Carl Nassib also came out of the closet in June 2021, making him the first active NFL player to come out as gay. Luke’s decision came indecently to Carl’s.
