Luke Fickell Salary Change After Moving To Wisconsin From UC
Luke Fickell will earn a $7.9 million salary on average per year as the University of Wisconsin’s head football coach.
At the University of Cincinnati, where Fickell held the same position, his salary began at $1.9 million in 2017 and increased to $5 million yearly on a contract extended through 2028. This represents a pay raise of about 60%.
Cincinnati’s contract buyout will cost $3.5 million. In the interim, while a national search for Fickell’s replacement is underway, UC Special Teams Coordinator Kerry Coombs will lead the team.
Fickell would still earn less than Jim Harbaugh of Michigan, Ryan Day of Michigan State, and Mel Tucker of Ohio State combined. Day recently agreed to a new $9.5 million contract.
After signing a contract extension in November of last year, Tucker will also earn $9.5 million per season. With over $7 million in annual pay, Harbaugh is third in the B1G in terms of salary.
After the Bearcats’ playoff run last year, Fickell had been linked to other high-profile jobs in the Midwest, including Notre Dame. Possibly because of the timing of the Bearcats’ College Football Playoff berth, he decided to remain at UC.
