Businessman Luiz Antônio Costa also known as Luiz Botina or Luiz Zebu was a very successful businessman in the 80s and 90s. His company Botinas Zebu produced 16 thousand pairs of shoes a day.
The company had thirteen hundred employees and the poster girl was a famous personality of the time, Angelica. During this time, Luiz was called King of Boots.
After the successful business, Botina bought a farm in Água Comprida, an ecological reserve with a total area of 861 hectares. He devoted his life to ecology where he studied the behaviors of animals.
The land was home to several animals including exotic ones like giraffes, Illamas, antelopes, and zebras which came from Africa, Czechoslovakia, and Peru.

Botina lived isolated on his farm also known as Santuário Ecológico for many years. Among his accomplishments, Luiz wrote a book about his own trajectory titled, “From a cold farmer to an international entrepreneur.”
Having a very poor background Botina rose to fame by fighting hard to become an international businessman. He shared the secrets of his successful Botinas Zebu.
Furthermore, with Angelica as the poster girl, Botinas Zebu became a landmark in Uberaba. The entrepreneur started producing boots in the U.S. and even had dual citizenship-Brazilian and American.

In 2007, the businessman was arrested for tax evasion which in consequence almost took the farm to the auction. To avoid the loss, Luiz carried out the installation of the non-social security debts which led to the cancellation of the auction.
In 2019, when this happened, the property was estimated at $31 million and debt of $7.7 million.
