This is brought about by a twist of events: Felipe Rojas Alou came to the United States in 1956 as a player. The scouts who signed him (from the Giants) thought his last name, Alou, was his family name, hence the surname Alou.
On the other hand, Luis was born in the Dominican Republic. There, the family name comes before the matronymic name. So he is referred to as Rojas.
