Lucy Worsley OBE is a British historian, author, curator and television presenter.
Lucy Worsley has been forthright about her decision not to have children, emphasizing the need for this personal choice to be respected.
Lucy and her husband have consciously chosen a child-free lifestyle, a decision that Worsley believes should not be subject to external judgment. In her own words, “Whether or not I choose to have children shouldn’t be a big deal and it’s no one else’s business. But if people are going to give me and others in my position a hard time, I’m happy to stand up and be counted.”
In a statement that sparked conversation, Worsley mentioned being “educated out of normal reproductive function.” However, she later clarified that her words were “misinterpreted and sounded darker than I’d intended.” This clarification underscores the challenges of discussing personal choices openly and the potential for misunderstandings.
Addressing the issue in an interview with the Times in 2018, Lucy Worsley expressed her desire not to be defined by her decision regarding parenthood. She stated, “I don’t want it to be the thing that defines me, and I don’t think it should be the thing that defines me, and I don’t think other people should be interested.”
Despite her initial naivety about the level of public interest in her personal life, Worsley has remained steadfast in her commitment to maintaining the privacy of her decision while contributing to a broader societal conversation about personal choices and societal expectations.
