Louis van Niekerk (gebore 27 Junie 1935) is ’n Afrikaanse verhoog-, rolprent- en TV-akteur en ’n teaterregisseur.

Loopbaan

Van Niekerk het op 12-jarige ouderdom begin toneelspeel. Sy eerste rol was in Babs Laker se Ek onthou vir Mamma. Hy het as ’n vryskutakteur gewerk totdat hy in 1965 by die Transvaalse Raad vir Uitvoerende Kunste (Truk) aangesluit het. Hy het ’n diep stem en sterk verhoogpersoonlikheid gehad en diep spore by Truk getrap. Hy het die regie van omtrent 25 stukke behartig en was oor die verloop van 33 jaar betrokke by meer as 200 produksies vir Truk, waar hy vier merietetoekennings ontvang het. Van die talle toneelstukke wat hy geregisseer het, is Kanna Hy Kô Hystoe, Die Vader, Die Dagboek van Anne Frank, Chris Barnard se Die Swanesang van Majoor Sommer en Shakespeare se Die Koopman van Venesië.

Van Niekerk het ook talle TV-rolle vertolk, onder meer in Amalia, Die Vierde Kabinet, Fees van die Ongenooides, Getroud met Rugby, Agter Elke Man en Grondbaronne.

Hy het tot einde Augustus 2009 as toesighoudende vervaardiger van Egoli gewerk en is tans voorsitter van die Teaterbystandsfonds.

Van Niekerk was getroud met Lettie Scheepers. Sy is in 1983 oorlede.

Pryse

In 1990 is hy vereer met die Erepenning vir Toneelkuns van die Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns en het hy ook die Gerhard Beukes-prys ontvang. In 2005 het hy die Afrikoon-toekenning van die ATKV en die Naledi-prys vir lewenslange bydrae tot teater gewen. In 2012 het hy ’n Fiesta-prys gekry vir sy lewenslange bydrae tot die teater.
