Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias has found himself in legal trouble once again as he was arrested on Sunday night for felony domestic violence, according to reports from TMZ. Urias was subsequently released after posting a bond of $50,000 in the early hours of Monday morning.
This is not the first time Urias has faced such allegations. In 2019, he was arrested for domestic battery following an incident in Beverly Hills. Although he was not charged with a crime at that time, Major League Baseball (MLB) suspended him for 20 games as a result of their investigation.
Now, with this recent arrest, Urias faces legal proceedings scheduled for later in September. The 27-year-old pitcher, originally from Mexico, had signed a one-year, $14.25 million deal with the Dodgers for the 2023 season.
Julio Urias played a crucial role in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 2020 World Series victory, and he has been with the team since 2016. His recent performance on the field, however, has faced scrutiny, particularly in the Dodgers’ loss to the Atlanta Braves on September 1, where he allowed five runs over five innings.
Regarding his performance, Urias commented, “Obviously, I didn’t pitch the way that I wanted to pitch. I gave it my all, but I failed, and now I just have to pitch better the next time out.”
As of now, there has been no official statement from the Dodgers regarding Urias’ availability. The team is set to play their next game on Tuesday night, marking the start of a three-game series against the Miami Marlins.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts assessed Urias’ performance last Friday, saying, “Julio wasn’t sharp. There were a lot of pitches middle-middle. There wasn’t a whole lot of chase or swing-and-miss. Obviously, these guys can hit it out of the ballpark. If you make a mistake, that’s what’s going to happen.”
Despite this setback, the Los Angeles Dodgers maintain their position as the leaders in the National League West with an impressive record of 84-52. Urias’ legal situation adds another layer of complexity to the team’s season as they continue their pursuit of success in the MLB.
