Marcus Carr was born to parents Clive Carr and Suzette Carr in Toronto. Marcus has an older brother named Duane Notice.
The Texas Longhorns point guard shares a similar passion as his mother, who briefly played basketball in high school. Similarly, his sibling Notice signed a contract with the Sudbury Five of the National Basketball League of Canada for the 2023 season.
Originally from Canada, Carr is in his first season with Texas after a brief career at Minnesota and Pittsburgh.
The 23-year-old Texas Longhorns guard is set to face the Xavier Musketeers in the Sweet 16 matchup at the T-Mobile Center on March 24, 2023. The Longhorns defeated Penn State Lions with Dylan Disu’s 28 points with 10 rebounds and an assist.
Marcus Carr Family Life
Marcus Carr was born on June 6, 1999 to mom Suzette and dad Clive Carr. Marcus grew up in Toronto, Ontario.
Suzette has always stressed the importance of living in the present moment to Duane and Marcus. She teaches them to adhere to her “72-hour rule,” which means they can feel disappointed for only three days after an injury.
Marcus Carr Mother
Suzette Carr has a brief stint playing basketball during her high school years. Likewise, Suzette has instilled resiliency in both sons that has helped with their career.
Her oldest son, Duane Notice, has described her as the world’s best mom. He continued the sentence by stating that she is the type of mother who would answer the phone calls at 3 am.
Both brothers are grateful for their mother’s support, allowing them to play the sport they love at an elite level.
Per WLTX, in 2017, Suzette traveled from Toronto to watch her son Duane play his last game at Colonial Life Arena. As the family resides in Toronto, it was their first time in Columbia. However, they have seen some of his road games during his career.
During a game, Notice knew that his mother was watching him from the stands, and he couldn’t help but feel emotional.
It was a gratifying experience for him to see her jumping up and down and cheering for him. He admitted that he had not seen her behave this way since he was in high school.
In addition, she maintains an active social media presence, particularly on Instagram, where she goes by the username @suzettes_events.
Marcus Carr Father
Marcus dad Clive Carr has shared his son’s accomplishments on his Twitter page. Several posts highlight their close bond and showcase how he has traveled long distances to watch his son play.
Marcus is also active on Facebook, where his current location is in Toronto. Although he has shared some personal images on his Facebook page, the majority of the content on his timeline pertains to social issues.
Marcus Carr Siblings
Marcus is the youngest of two siblings in the family. The firstborn Duane Notice is a basketball player for Sudbury Five of NBLC.
Although Duane and Marcus enjoy their one-on-one basketball matchups, their brotherly bond goes beyond the court. The importance of family has been ingrained in them since their childhood, and Duane fondly remembers how protective he was of Marcus.
Numerous photos show Duane holding his younger brother as a baby or having his arms wrapped around him as a toddler.
Their close-knit family has significantly shaped them into the admirable young men they are today. They have been taught the values of loyalty, honor, and respect, which are now integral to their characters.
Despite their strong family ties, Duane and Marcus were not immune to typical sibling rivalries. The five-year age gap between them posed some challenges during their childhood.
Carr confesses that his brother was his first idol and the person he wanted to emulate the most. However, they used to constantly fight over video games or argue in the car about each other breathing too loudly.
The brothers both attended St. Michael’s College School in Toronto, but like many teenagers, they walked to school separately, wanting their paths.
By this time, they had outgrown their fighting, and have different last names and friend groups allowed them to develop their own identities on and off the court.
Marcus Carr Childhood
Marcus spent most of his childhood playing basketball with his friends from the neighborhood where his brother would join.
The youngest Carr grew up in a sports-loving family, with his elder brother’s career with Raptors 905 and the CEBL’s Hamilton Honey Badgers.
Both brothers were raised as fans of the Toronto Raptors, and going to their games was a childhood highlight.
When they weren’t watching the Raptors or practicing themselves, they often played one-on-one, with Notice playing just as hard against his younger brother as he would against anyone else. Carr recalls feeling upset and teary-eyed after losing to his brother in these games.
Besides, Carr’s basketball experience in Toronto led him to attend St. Michael’s College for high school, just like his older brother Duane.
Carr reminisces about how his brother’s games were always exciting to watch, even though he didn’t fully understand the concept of an all-boys private Catholic school.
His mother was thrilled when he expressed interest in attending St. Michael’s because of its strong reputation for education and networking.
Carr credits his positive upbringing to having good influences, particularly his high school coach, Vidal Massiah. Per Street of Toronto, Massiah helped develop his basketball skills but also helped shape him into the person he is today.
Marcus has a daughter named Kyrie Carr, with whom he often spends time off the court. The NCAA video shows him spending time with his toddler, who is playing with a basketball.
