Guitarist, singer, and songwriter Lita Ford was born in England on September 19, 1958. She began her career in the late 1970s as the lead guitarist for the all-female rock band the Runaways before starting a successful solo glam metal career that peaked in the late 1980s. Ford’s most popular song is the duet with Ozzy Osbourne from 1989’s “Close My Eyes Forever,” which peaked at No. 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
At the age of sixteen, Ford accepted Kim Fowley’s invitation to join the Runaways, an all-female rock band, in 1975. The group quickly acquired a recording deal, and in 1976 they issued their debut album. During the Runaways’ late 1970s heyday, the band attracted a lot of media attention and prospered as a recording and touring outfit.
