Linda Magovern Wiki – Linda Magovern Biography

Linda Magovern, of Stratford, Connecticut, was arrested near Union Station after she said she was an officer and “a part of the presidential cabinet,” and presented a military police challenge coin, a D.C. police report says.

Magovern approached the inauguration perimeter at Columbus Circle and First Street NE in a vehicle at about 8:45 a.m., police say. She was “displaying a round metallic object later identified as a Military Police Challenge Coin,” the police report says. The medallions are used by law enforcement and members of the military to recognize achievement. Police say Magovern then said she was an officer and presidential cabinet member.

An officer ordered Magovern to put the vehicle in park and turn it off. She complied but drove forward after an officer asked for her license.

Officers repeatedly ordered Magovern to stop the vehicle, but she headed north on Columbus Circle, police said. She was stopped nearby, outside Union Station.

Charge – Arrested

The woman arrested on Saturday, who the police identified as Linda of Stratford, Conn., pulled up to a checkpoint near Columbus Circle, about half a mile from the U.S. Capitol, around 8:45 a.m. and showed officers a “military police challenge coin,” an unofficial keepsake widely distributed in military and police communities, according to a report from the city’s Metropolitan Police Department. The woman initially parked her car at the request of officers, but when they asked for her driver’s license, she began to drive away, the police said.

The police were able to stop her a few hundred feet away, in front of Union Station, and she was accused of three crimes: impersonating a police officer, failing to obey a police officer, and trying to flee a police officer. The report said she was taken to a hospital for evaluation at a psychiatric unit. Ms. MaGovern could not immediately be reached.

The Metropolitan Police Department frequently makes gun arrests, although they rarely receive so much attention. In the week between Dec. 28 and Jan. 4, for example, the department reported that it had recovered 59 guns and arrested dozens of people on related gun charges.

Investigation Report

She was taken to a hospital to be evaluated. Security is high in D.C. ahead of Inauguration Day on Wednesday, with more than 15,000 current National Guard members in D.C. as of Sunday morning, NBC News reports.

In another arrest this weekend in the area, a Virginia man carrying an unlicensed gun and ammunition was arrested early Sunday, police say.
