The Riches of Glenn Villenueve
As of mid-2020, Glenn Villeneuve’s net worth is estimated to be over $500,000, earned through a successful career on television. His work with National Geographic has helped build his wealth significantly, and create a more comfortable lifestyle for his family.
His fame has also led him to do work as a teacher, focusing on survival lessons.
Early Life and Alaska
Glenn grew up with a love for the outdoors and nature, as he was raised in a house near a forest in Vermont, far from the nearest town. His family disliked being close to civilization, and due to their location, there weren’t any schools nearby. He was taught at home, learning to read, write, and communicate, among many other lessons with his parents as teachers.
He loved being in touch with nature, learning to witness animals, the weather and plants, and many other events.
He was taught how to hunt, fish, gather, make items for survival, and use them during his youth. He didn’t stay disconnected from the outside world, as his family eventually eased into technology, enjoying the benefits television, the internet, and many other things. As he grew to an adult, he started to live a more normal life nearer to cities and other people. However, he still longed for the independence that nature brought him; in the mid-1990s, he learned about Alaska, and decided that he would move there.
Living Alone
In 1999, Villeneuve left his hometown behind and moved to Alaska, the state located in the extreme northern-western part of North America, and is identified by its harsh cold climate as well as its vast largely undeveloped land area.
While it is one of the largest states in the US, it is also one of the least populated, due to the lack of comfortable living conditions for most of the year. Most of its citizens are descendants of the indigenous population in the area, though their population also consists of descendants of various colonies from centuries past.
Few people like Glenn decide to move to Alaska by choice. Some moved there during the gold rush, while in recent years, others have been moving there to live a more self-subsisting and survival lifestyle. Like his youth, he spent many months alone in Alaska, living in a cabin with most of the outside in below zero conditions.
For a time, he lived in a tent while he built his cabin and there was even a story that he was attacked by wolves, though he survived the encounter unharmed. He lived in Alaska as a hunter, surviving on the meat of animals. This eventually attracted television producers his way.
Life Below Zero
Glenn was offered the opportunity to become a television personality, one of the main cast members of the show “Life Below Zero”, which showcases people living in various remote places of Alaska, surviving and living through seasonal activities or subsistence. He accepted, as work with the show would mean more exposure for his passion and a good payday for his family.
He was initially shown as someone living alone in Chandalar, some 100 miles from the nearest city of Fairbanks, and quite close to the Arctic Circle.
He wasn’t the only one featured in the show, as it also showcased Sue Aikens, Andy Bassich along with his family, sled dog trainer Jessie Holmes, Ricko Dewilde, and Erik Salitan. Later on, the show revealed that he wasn’t actually living alone, but just spent months away from his family to help them get food and other needs.
He became a fan favorite after his family became more of a feature on the show; they were shown as a true blended family with some of their children from past relationships but all living together, and had varied features about them.
Success and Life after the Show
Villeneuve remained a pivotal part of “Life Below Zero” for many years, and gained significant pay. Sometime around the 11th season, producers approached him once more telling him that he would no longer remain a regular cast member of the show, as they didn’t need to film any more of his endeavors. He understood and started to slowly become less of a main feature of the show, though still tied to it.
With the money he earned, his family moved and settled in Fairbanks where they reside today.
In recent years, he’s become more of a lifestyle blogger in Alaska, showcasing some of his life endeavors while also keeping his followers up to date. He loves technology and uses it to showcase his love for the outdoors. He spends a lot of time with his family – all train constantly to stay fit. He’s also been doing some food blogging, showcasing his meals for a day including indulging in food that he hasn’t eaten for many years.
He also pursued an interest in flying, and began taking lessons so that he could one day pilot ‘planes on his own.
Personal Life
Glenn met his first wife shortly after moving to Alaska and while few details are known about her, she likely descends from the indigenous people of Alaska, as seen with his two children with her who have been featured on the show. They divorced sometime in the late 2000s, and he then met and started a relationship with Trisha Kazan, and the two began living together in 2014. They later married and they have a child together, while he also adopted her child from a previous relationship.
