Liang Wenbo Ban: Why Was Liang Wenbo Banned From Snooker

Liang Wenbo was permanently banned from professional competition after being found guilty of match-fixing offences. In January 2023, Liang was charged with “being concerned in fixing matches and approaching players to fix matches on the World Snooker Tour, seeking to obstruct the investigation and failing to cooperate with the WPBSA investigation”.

Following an independent disciplinary tribunal, Liang received a lifetime ban from professional snooker and was ordered to pay 43,000 pounds in costs.

Also, following a domestic assault conviction in April 2022, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) suspended Liang from professional competition for four months for behaviour unbecoming of a sportsperson and for bringing the sport into disrepute.

The WPBSA suspended Liang again in October 2022 amid a match-fixing investigation that subsequently implicated ten Chinese players.
