Leona Maguire bagged $550,000 in Prize Money from the CME Tour Championship in 2022. The Irish missed the $2 million prize when she lost to Lydia Ko.
The LPGA Tour had set up a total of $7 million in prize money, which is touted as the biggest offer in its history. Moreover, LPGA Tour has already established about a $100 million prize for its overall 2023 schedule, making a new record.
Leona is a women’s professional golfer who has participated in many tours since her initial participation in 2005. She won the LPGA Drive-On Championship on February 2022, so it isn’t surprising she came this close to winning.
Even though she won the second position prize, $550,000 is still a hefty sum for ordinary people. Moreover, she has won prize money from other tours, making her a pretty rich women’s athlete.
CME Group Tour Championship Prize Money
Leona Maguire won $550,000 today, the prize money for the golfer who became 2nd in the CME Group Tour championship.
She fell short of receiving the 2 million for the championship winner. Moreover, this money was the largest cheque introduced in Women’s golf. Lydia Ko received this money after she beat Maguire by clinching a 2-under 70 this Sunday and getting two strokes ahead of Leona.
The CME Group Tour Championship is the finale of the LPGA Tour. Thus, it’s a no-brainer why the prize fund is so big for it.
The total prize fund of $7 million is a significant increase over 2021’s $5 million. The winner’s prize increased from $1.5 million to today’s $ 2 million. Moreover, Leona also received a larger share than her runner-up counterpart, Nasa Hataoka, who just got $480,000 in 2021.
Moreover, all 60 participants of the Group Tour will get payouts depending on their final rankings. For example, the 3rd placed Anna Nordquist received $340,000, the 10th placed Nelly Korda received $83,500, and the 15th placed Danielle Kang received $72,000.
Leona Maguire Net Worth
Leona Maguire’s net worth is around $3 million, making her a wealthy female sports figure.
Leona has been a successful golfer, reaching the world ranking of 20 with many LPG tours. She has reached the top 10 positions in famous titles like US Women’s Open and British Open and received lots of prize money from these tours. Her earnings are fit for a top golfer like her.
Although golfers receive a large amount of money and travel to fantastic places like the Bahamas and the USA, people do not estimate the expenses they have to make, like travel costs or salary expenses for trainers. These expenses can range from a yearly $50,000 to even $100,000.
That is why only the top golfers have a good net worth; others will only have an opportunity to earn a little. However, Leona has seen success through many of her participated tours and has received a good amount of money.
Even if we deduct her average expenses of $50,000 a year, she still has earned more than that through her prize money and participation rewards in numerous tours. Also, she doesn’t seem to be too vacation minded or indulging in luxuries like other athletes, as we only see a majority of her social media filled with posts related to her golfing career.
Leona’s Career Earnings

We already know about the $550,000 she received today. She also received the prize money of $225,000 after winning the 2022’s LPGA Drive-On Championship. She has also got lots of money after coming in the top 10 positions out of 6 competitions out of 13 in 2022.
For instance, she earned $309,546 from her 4th position in the 2022 Women’s British Open. She also earned $261,193 by getting 8th place in the 2022 US Women’s Open.
She earned well in 2021, too, earning $123,703 from becoming 6th in the Amundi Evian Championship. She also earned $58,839 from 15th place in the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship.
Leona’s Association with Luxury Cars
Due to good career earnings, she has associated herself with the luxury car brand BMW to fuel her lifestyle.
In her Instagram post on August 4, 2022, she posted a photo of herself with the luxurious five-star resort, K Club, and a car in the background.
The car is BMW, and it is evident that she is fond of the BMW brand; since she promoted the BMV brand through her account and thanked the brand for looking out for her.
BMW Ireland’s official account also replied that they felt great to have her home and wished her the best in her career. Looking at the post closer, the car she is showcasing is a model from the BMW 4 series.
