Morake, Lebohang “Lebo M.” (born 20 May 1964), is a South African singer and composer best known for orchestrating and singing music for The Lion King films and stage performances. Hans Zimmer, the Lion King’s soundtrack composer, suggested him to Disney, and he was subsequently recruited to organise and lead the African choir that sang in the films. He sings the now-famous chant (generally regarded associated with the film’s image in popular culture) over the opening scene as the first voice heard in the picture. He also worked on the film’s direct-to-video sequel, The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, as well as the sequel to the film’s soundtrack, Rhythm of the Pride Lands.
