She was born as the daughter of Lawrence Bryan Hutton and Minnie Hutton, however, after World War II, her mother divorced his father in 1945. Her mother later remarried and took the surname ‘Hall’ in honor of her stepfather, who never wholeheartedly accepted her. As for her education, she graduated from Chamberlain High School in Tampa. She then went on to join the University of South Florida in 1961. At the age of 19, she moved to New York with former Tampa disc jockey Pat Chamburs. However, she ended up doing menial jobs like working at the Playboy Club to support herself financially. After a while, she moved to New Orleans along with her Pat de Ella, where she attended Newcomb College, she joined Tulane University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1964.
